Dear ATA Colleagues,
Many of you attended the recent Endocrine Society annual meeting in San Diego and are aware of the recognition bestowed upon several ATA members. For those of you unable to attend, I am pleased to report that three of our ATA colleagues were Endocrine Society 2015 Laureate Awards recipients:
Susan A. Sherman, MD – Outstanding Clinical Practitioner Award. Dr. Sherman was recognized for "extraordinary contributions by a practicing endocrinologist to the endocrine and/or medical community. Dedicated to patient care, Dr. Sherman has run a solo and highly respected private practice for more than 35 years and accepted patients from all socio-economic groups". She has been a member of the ATA since 1996 and currently serves on the ATA Board of Directors.
Valeria Guimaraes, FACE, MD, PhD – Outstanding Public Service Award. Dr. Guimaraes was recognized as "the individual who best demonstrates dedication to public awareness or public service in support of the field of endocrinology and the patients who suffer from endocrine disorders. Dr. Guimaraes has developed, led and contributed to local and national public awareness campaigns tackling topics such as childhood obesity, thyroid disease awareness and early detection of thyroid cancer". She has been a member of the ATA since 1995, has served on the ATA patient education committee and is currently president of the Brazilian Endocrine Society.
Douglas S. Ross, MS, MD – Outstanding Scholarly Physician Award. Dr. Ross was recognized for "outstanding contributions to the practice of clinical endocrinology in academic settings...A frequent speaker at the Society's annual meeting and American Thyroid Association meetings, Dr. Ross has served three terms on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism and currently serves on the editorial board of Thyroid". He has been an ATA member since 1983 and is currently chair of the Hyperthyroidism guidelines task force.
E. Chester Ridgway Trainee Conference Legacy Fund
One hundred ATA members, colleagues, and friends have donated or pledged a total of $82,000 to the Ridgway Legacy Fund. We have reached 33% of our $250,000 goal to support the Trainee Conference named in Chip Ridgway's memory. We have engaged leading ATA members to reach out to colleagues and friends to ask for support of the Ridgway Legacy Fund. Our thanks to Bryan Haugen, Paul Ladenson, Len Wartofsky, Peter Singer, Tony Bianco, Don St. Germain and Greg Randolph for their continuing fundraising efforts. The Ridgway Trainee Conference depends on your generosity.

Newly Updated Treatment Guidelines for Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma from the American Thyroid Association Published in Thyroid Journal
New Rochelle, NY, March 26, 2015—A Task Force convened by the American Thyroid Association (ATA) released updated guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). March 31 deadline for ATA Awards and ATA Board of Director Nominations
Nominate a colleague who exemplifies outstanding professionalism, dedication and contributions in the field of thyroidology. The Van Meter Lectureship Award, the Stanbury Pathophysiology Medal and the Distinguished Service Award will be presented at the 15th International Thyroid Congress of the ATA in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, October 18 - 23, 2015.
In accordance with the Bylaws of the American Thyroid Association, the Nominating Committee is soliciting nominations from the membership for candidates for the offices of President and Directors (2) to serve on the ATA Board of Directors.
