PRESIDENT'S UPDATE
|
Antonio C. Bianco, MD, PhD
ATA President |
Dear ATA Colleagues,
Happy Holiday wishes to everyone. This has been a fantastic year with so much progress and accomplishments in the thyroid world. As the dust settles following the ITC meeting in Orlando, the impression I was left with was of a refreshing but intense meeting. Its success undoubtedly reflects the gigantic effort of Rebecca Bahn and the POC, CEO Bobbi Smith and the wonderful ATA office staff, as well as the contribution and engagement of the sister societies. We are now looking ahead to our next annual meeting in Denver, Colorado. The organization of the scientific program is well under way led by Stephanie Fish and Peter Arvan; and of course we look forward to an exciting program. In addition, our executive team has been busy revising and finalizing our committee leaders and membership. Currently ATA's work is carried out by 26 committees and task forces including over 300 members, representing all constituencies and interests. These groups will be having conference calls and completing work by email throughout the year, and most will begin that work almost immediately. Thank you to all who serve ATA in this way. The updated committee list will be available on our website for your interest.
2015 End of Year Giving
Your generosity makes the difference – in scientific discovery, in patients' lives!
Your tax-deductible contribution helps to support valuable patient education and crucial thyroid research – two of our primary goals – with the belief that new discoveries and better understanding will translate into improved ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat thyroid disease.
ATA committee volunteers
The American Thyroid Association appreciates the ATA members who give their time, talent and contributions. Please see this year's list of committee members who have agreed to serve to implement the ATA mission.
2016 Dues Renewal
The ATA Board of Directors has approved maintaining the dues rate without an increase in 2016. We will continue the discount for paying early for Active Members. Dues renewal has been sent via email. Please call us if you did not receive the email. Update Dues
Call for candidates for ATA Treasurer-elect
The ATA is calling for your nominations for Treasurer-elect candidates. The ATA Treasurer is a member of the ATA Executive Committee, plays an essential role in society governance and works closely with the ATA CFO and the Finance and Audit Committee. Candidates should express their interest in the Treasurer position and be nominated by an ATA member. The selection committee, consisting of the ATA Executive Committee and select board and committee chairs, will be in charge of the review and selection process.
Candidates should be (i) nominated by an ATA member, (ii) given initial approval by the Executive Committee, and (iii) expressed interest in the Treasurer position.

Dr. Alan Farwell, EIC of CTFP, is looking for a few good editorial board members – please email bsmith@thyroid.org with your interest in serving on the CTFP Editorial Board.
The goal of CTFP is to bring to patients the most up-to-date, cutting edge thyroid research. Editorial Board members are asked to "translate" the summaries presented in Clinical Thyroidology into lay language for patients. This allows the rapid dissemination of thyroid research to the widest possible audience.
Board members will be required to provide summaries every other month (6/year). You will receive the Clinical Thyroidology summary as a WORD file as the basis for your summary and be asked to complete the summary with a 2-week turn-around time. It is expected that it will take 30 – 60 min to complete each summary. The completed summaries will be able to be cited as an on-line publication.
