87th Annual Meeting Trainee Grant Program – Application Now Open
E. Chester Ridgway Trainee Conference and Trainee Day

The American Thyroid Association (ATA) is pleased to announce that the E. Chester Ridgway Trainee Conference, the “Ridgway”, will begin with the basic and clinical “Trainee Day” lectures the morning of Wednesday, October 18, 2017. The Ridgway continues with concurrent sessions through Saturday of the 87th Annual Meeting of the ATA in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The Trainee Day and overarching “Ridgway” conference are designed to advance basic and clinical trainee knowledge and understanding of thyroid physiology, disease and treatment.
All trainees (ATA members and nonmembers) that have registered for the 87th Annual Meeting are automatically enrolled in the “Ridgway” conference. The “Trainee Day” is complimentary for all trainees however you must pre-register to attend.
ATA Trainee Grant Program Application
dates – March 31 – June 7, 2017
The ATA offers grant opportunities for ATA Associate members. The Trainee Grant Program supports our early career members to attend the 87th Annual Meeting and E. Chester Ridgway Trainee Conference by offering complimentary shared room accommodations at a contracted ATA hotel. This fund and space limited opportunity is open to all clinical and basic trainees, fellows, residents, and medical and graduate students.
In order to participate in the Trainee Grant Program you must pre-register and attend the clinical or basic “Trainee Day” lectures (reg code TTB or TTC) taking place on Wednesday, October 18th and all concurrent E. Chester Ridgway Trainee Conference sessions through Saturday, October 21, 2017. Preference is given to trainees who have either:
- submitted a Thyroid Research Project Proposal or
- submitted an abstract as a first author to be presented at the 87th Annual Meeting of the ATA

Call for Trainee Case Presentations at the 87th Annual Meeting – Submissions Open Now
We invite all trainees, fellows, students, and residents who are attending the 87th Annual Meeting of the American Thyroid Association (ATA) in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada to submit an interesting case for presentation and discussion during the E. Chester Ridgway Trainee Conference sessions.
Three different sessions will consist of case presentations by trainees to experts in the thyroid field in the following topic areas: Thyroid Nodules, Thyroid Function, and Thyroid Cancer. You may consult with a colleague or mentor to see if they have any cases they would be willing to let you present however please do not submit a case that you plan to present as a poster or oral during the 87th Annual Meeting of the ATA.
Please volunteer or encourage your trainee colleagues to submit a case. These sessions are highly interactive, very educational and informative. If you are selected you will be asked to present your case(s) to the experts for discussion during the meeting
87th Annual Meeting Trainee Abstract & Poster Contest
The American Thyroid Association (ATA) Trainees and Career Advancement committee will be hosting the 5th Annual Trainee Poster Contest for trainees who are first authors and presenters on posters to be presented at the 87th Annual Meeting of the ATA. All trainees who are interested in participating should opt-in during the abstract submission process under the ‘Authors’ section.
Highlighted Trainee Abstracts
The top three trainee abstracts will be selected in July 2017 and in addition to presenting their winning abstracts as posters they will be invited to present a short oral presentation (3 – 5 minutes) on Saturday, October 21 from 8:45AM – 9:15AM during the 2017 E. Ridgway Trainee Conference to their trainee colleagues.
Onsite Trainee Poster Contest
An additional 30 trainee posters that are not selected to present short orals will be invited as finalists to the 5th Annual Trainee Poster Contest to be judged onsite on Saturday, October 21 during the 87th Annual Meeting of the ATA. The finalists will be notified by July 2017 and will be given instructions at that time. ATA members and leaders will be judge the top scoring trainee posters, speaking to the trainee presenters onsite, and evaluating abstracts for scientific merit and presentation. Nine winning abstract posters will be announced at the 87th Annual Meeting of the ATA.
Winners
After the conclusion of the 87th Annual Meeting, the three highlighted trainee abstracts and the nine winning posters will be recognized on the ATA Trainees’ Corner Website, the ATA member electronic newsletter SIGNAL, and winners will be mailed an award certificate.
