Steven Sherman, MD, Named a Director
on the American Thyroid Association Executive Council
(FALLS CHURCH, VA)—Steven I. Sherman, MD, of Houston, was recently
named a director on the Executive Council of the American Thyroid Association
(ATA), the leading professional society of physicians and researchers
who specialize in diseases of the thyroid gland. He was elected on Sept.
30, 2004, during the ATA 76th Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia,
Canada, and will serve a four-year term.
“My goal is to strengthen further the ATA’s commitment to the highest standards for patient care, clinical research, and education of both physicians and patients,” said Dr. Sherman.
Dr. Sherman is an Associate Professor and has recently been appointed as the first Chair of the Department of Endocrine Neoplasia and Hormonal Disorders at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Sherman has been serving on the ATA Council since the fall of 2003, having been appointed to complete a director’s position vacated by a member elected to a higher ATA office. He is also Co-Chair of the ATA Program Committee for Frontiers in Thyroid Cancer 2005 and has served on the Public Health and Education committees. Dr. Sherman has been an active member of the ATA since 1992.
Other leadership roles he holds include chairing both the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Thyroid Carcinoma Consensus Guidelines Committee and the National Thyroid Cancer Treatment Cooperative Study Group. He also serves on the Publications Committee of The Endocrine Society.
