Antonio C. Bianco, MD, PhD, Elected to Board of Directors of the
American Thyroid Association

(PHOENIX)—Antonio C. Bianco, MD, PhD, of Boston, has been elected as a director on the Board of Directors of the American Thyroid Association (ATA). He will serve a four-year term of office (2006–2010).

Dr. Bianco is Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Research in the Thyroid Section at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is an active scientist, with a research focus on thyroid hormone metabolism.

A member of the ATA since 1987, he has served on ATA committees continuously since 2001. Currently, he is the basic science co-chair of the Program Committee of the ATA’s 77th Annual Meeting, taking place in Phoenix, Oct. 11–15, 2006. He has also served at multiple levels and as Secretary–Treasurer of the Latin American Thyroid Society, an ATA sister society, from 1995 to 2001. Dr. Bianco currently serves on the editorial boards of Thyroid, Endocrinology, and the Journal of Endocrinology and is a regular member of the Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology Study Section at the National Institutes of Health.

“Ever since I attended my first ATA meeting in 1985, the ATA and its members have been a source of incentive for my professional development,” said Dr. Bianco. “Indeed, the level of support provided by the ATA has been outstanding, and I look forward to being an integral part of the decision-making process as a member of the Board.”

The American Thyroid Association is a nonprofit professional medical society composed of physicians and scientists dedicated to enhancing the understanding of thyroid physiology and pathophysiology, improving diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases, and promoting the education of physicians, patients, and the public about thyroid disorders. The ATA’s web site, www.thyroid.org, provides professional and patient resources, such as treatment guidelines, thyroid health brochures in English and Spanish, and access to Friends of the ATA, a patient-oriented service providing access to the latest in thyroid health information.
