Sad Announcements of the passing of ATA members:

Frank Greenspan, M.D. Dr. Francis (Frank) Greenspan, University of California San Francisco Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Radiology, died peacefully at his home in Alameda on October 13, 2016 at the age of 96. He was chief of the UCSF Thyroid Clinic from 1959 until his retirement in 2010. Generations of endocrine fellows learned their thyroidology skills from him. Dr. Greenspan received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Thyroid Association in 1997 and served as ATA Treasurer 1983-1988.
 
Marvin Mitchell, M.D. Dr. Marvin Mitchell died on September 30, 2016 at the age of 94. He was a national authority on the use of radioisotopes for testing and diagnosis. He established a pioneering program in 1976 to test newborns for hypothyroidism at the Massachusetts State Laboratory Institute. Dr. Mitchell was an ATA member since 1976 and served on the Public Health Committee.
 
Shigenobu Nagataki, M.D. Emeritus Professor Shigenobu Nagataki passed away on November 12, 2016 in Tokyo, Japan, at 84 years of age. His postgraduate work with Dr. Sidney H. Ingbar at the Thorndike Laboratory and Harvard Unit at Boston City Hospital focused on iodine metabolism in health and disease and the utility of radioisotopes in the study of overall thyroidal economy and pathophysiology. Professor Nagataki was a member of the American Thyroid Association since 1969 and a founding member of Asia & Oceania Thyroid Association (AOTA).
