Dear ATA Member:
On behalf of the ATA Board of Directors, I am delighted to announce that we have approved major plans for the expansion of our journal, Thyroid, in 2014, in partnership with our long-time publisher, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.
First, our excellent abstract and commentary publication—Clinical Thyroidology, led by Editor-in-Chief Jerome M. Hershman, MD, will be enhanced by a sophisticated online format that will be easily searchable and discoverable and accessible in libraries and institutions all over the globe as part of a subscription to Thyroid. ATA members will continue to get Clinical Thyroidology as part of their membership benefits.
Second, our offering to ATA members and the thyroid and endocrinology community will expand even further with the launch of an innovative new rapid-publication videojournal companion to Thyroid called VideoEndocrinology. VideoEndocrinology will publish high-quality videos of cutting-edge surgical and diagnostic imaging techniques and technologies covering thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal tumors and diseases, with minimally invasive, robotic, and open surgical procedures. All paid subscribers to Thyroid will receive the videojournal as part of their subscription, and the videojournal will be a new and valuable ATA membership benefit and an opportunity for our members to share their techniques and showcase new approaches.
The ATA and Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. are pleased to provide a greatly expanded set of important resources and expert opinion in this fast-moving field. Benefits for ATA include:
- Expanded membership benefits
- Inclusion of Clinical Thyroidology in mainstream library collections
- Expanded coverage of clinical content
- First-ever endocrinology videojournal
- Opportunity to increase revenue streams to support ATA educational programs
This summer we will select an outstanding editor-in-chief and associate editors for VideoEndocrinology and build an extensive taxonomy that will support a robust videojournal platform.
All of this is unfolding with the strong support of Thyroid Editor-in-Chief Peter A. Kopp, MD, the Clinical Thyroidology Editor-in-Chief Jerry Hershman, MD and the Chair of our Publications Committee, Tony Hollenberg, MD.
I hope you will be as pleased as we are by this opportunity to bring together, strengthen, and expand ATA's offerings in our field, and we look forward to the submission of your most interesting videos this fall (details to follow).
Sincerely,
Bryan R. Haugen, MD
